Frequently Asked Questions

  • This pilot is open to LGBTQIA+ families living in Victoria with children aged 5–13 years (though siblings of other ages are welcome to join in too).

  • Each family receives a free Active Rainbow Families Pack valued at over $350RRP. It includes a backpack, drink bottle, bamboo lunch box, sunscreen, activity gear, a dry bag, a seed pack, and the Adventure Passport for children to fill out each week.

  • The Passport is a fun booklet where kids record their activities, tick off adventures, and reflect on what they enjoyed. Parents complete short weekly surveys so we can learn what works best and improve the program in the future.

  • The program is flexible — activities can be as short as 10–20 minutes or as long as you want. Most families weave them into everyday life like going for a walk, playing a game, or visiting a park.

  • To help us understand the impact of the program, we ask parents to complete:

    • A short weekly survey (2–3 minutes)

    • A monthly check-in survey (about 5 minutes)

    • A pre-program survey when you first join

    • A post-program survey at the end

These surveys are simple and quick, but they’re an important part of the pilot, helping us show the benefits and secure future funding.

  • You can pick up a pack at the Victorian Pride Centre during events such as the Move in Pride Sport Expo, or at upcoming Rainbow Families events. Packs can also be posted to families across Victoria.

  • There’s a mix of everyday activities (like playing in the park, cooking together, or dancing at home) and special adventures with partners such as Zoos Victoria, O’Brien Icehouse, parkrun, Parks Victoria, Bounce Inc, the Australian Sports Museum, and more.

  • No- the program and the packs are completely free thanks to funding from VicHealth’s Growing Healthy Communities Grant.

  • We’re testing Active Rainbow Families in Victoria first so we can understand what works, what families enjoy, and where we can improve. Your feedback will help shape future versions of the program.

  • Just complete the online form on our website. Once you’re registered, you’ll be added to the program and contacted about how to receive your pack.
